MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – August 11
Oakland Athletics vs. Toronto Blue Jays
First Pitch – 1:37 pm EST
Rogers Centre – Toronto, Ontario
Broadcast – MLB TV
On Saturday we rode this series to a NRFI at +105 and the reason was simple – the offenses have been terrible. The Athletics had scored just 12 runs in their last five games and rank 26th in run scoring. They followed that up Saturday by scoring just one run. However, that was enough to win as the Blue Jays didn’t score at all. They had been similarly bad on offense – ranking 23rd in run scoring on the year and being much worse as of late.
Although this is a lot about the offenses, I also think these are underrated pitchers. JP Sears takes the hill for the Athletics and he’s allowed just one run in his last two starts combined. He’s thrown 14.0 innings in that span and racked up 14 strikeouts as well. While the offenses he’s faced recently aren’t good, they are in the same neighborhood as Toronto.
On the other side of the equation we have Chris Bassit. He has a sub-4.00 ERA on the year and will be looking to make it double digit wins. Not only that, but he’s coming off a good start where he held the Orioles to just two runs over 7.0 innings. That’s a far more potent offense than the Athletics, which gives me the confidence that he’s roll early in this one.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 11: No (-115)
Cleveland Guardians vs. Minnesota Twins
First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
Target Field – Minneapolis, Minnesota
Broadcast – MLB TV
This game is not one that we’re fading the offenses. Both of these teams can absolutely hit the ball and score a bunch of runs. However, I do want to put my trust in the guys taking the bump on Sunday.
In the top of the first, David Festa is looking to limit the Guardians. He’s faced tough offensive teams that last three times out – the Phillies, Mets and Cubs – the first two of which are in the top 10 of runs scored. In those three games, Festa allowed just three total runs. He also only allowed nine hits while striking out 22 batters in just 14.2 innings. That seems to be on the right track for a scoreless first.
On the other side, I am putting my trust in Tanner Bibee. He’s also allowed just three runs in his last three appearances (16.2 innings pitched). Those three outings have dragged his ERA down to just 3.48 on the year. He should be able to bring this one home for us on Sunday.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 11: No (-115)
