MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – August 20
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Atlanta Braves
First Pitch – 7:20 pm EST
Truist Park – Atlanta, Georgia
Broadcast – TBS
In the top half of the inning, we’ll see the return of Reynaldo Lopez, who comes back to the rotation for the first time in nearly a month. Before he left with some forearm fatigue, he was absolutely lights out. He has a 2.06 ERA and had an early start against these same Phillies where he looked stellar. He threw 6.0 innings in that start and allowed just two htis and no earned runs. Will he be as sharp on the return? There’s no way to know for sure, but he should be good enough to get us three early outs for this NRFI.
The bottom half of the inning should be no sweat at all. The Braves bats have been real quiet as of late. They’ve been held to three or less runs in three of their last four games. Facing Zack Wheeler is never good for a trend like that. He’s allowed just three earned runs over his last three starts (20.0 innings). He’s also striking out nearly ten batters per nine innings on the year and the Braves are 25th in the league in strikeouts. This should be an easy one for Wheeler to bring home for us.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 20: No (-125)
Los Angeles Angels vs. Kansas City Royals
First Pitch – 8:10 pm EST
Kauffman Stadium – Kansas City, Missouri
Broadcast – MLB TV
While this game may not have the marquee that our first selection does, it has a pair of pitchers who sub-3.50 ERAs. The first to take the bump will be Cole Ragans, who comes in off the back of two quality starts. In those starts he tallied 13.1 innings and 15 strikeouts – allowing just two runs in the process. The Angels are 28th in the league in scoring in the first inning, so Ragans should be able to jump out to a hot start for us.
In the bottom half of the inning, it’ll be Tyler Anderson looking to finish an NRFI for us. The lefty has just a 3.30 ERA and while he had a rough start last time out, he has been solid as of late. Going back two starts, he held the hot hitting Yankees to just one run over six innings while fanning seven. The Royals, like the Yankees, are a top ten offense. However, one key difference is how they come out of the gate. The Royals are just 16th in the league in first inning runs, which means Anderson should have time to get settled.
NRFI/YRFI Bet for August 20: No (-120)
