MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – July 25

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Toronto Blue Jays

First Pitch – 3:07 pm EST
Rogers Centre – Toronto, Ontario
Broadcast – MLB TV

In the top of the first of this game, Chris Bassitt takes the hill looking to get our NRFI started right. He has been hit around a little bit recently. He did, however, carry a 1.95 ERA through the month of June. Tampa might be the right team for him to find his footing and get back to that June form. They are 27th in the league in run scoring and have scored justy eight runs over their last three games (2.67 runs per game). They also haven’t scored in the first inning during that span. That lack of offense should help Bassitt get back to business.

Looking to close out the NRFI for us will be Taj Bradley. He’s been pitching out of his mind in the last couple outings and looks like he’s coming into his own as a legitimate ace of this staff. He’s coming off of back-to-back seven-inning shoutouts of two of the best offenses in the league – the Guardians and the Yankees. Toronto is a much worse offense than those two – ranking 25th in runs scored this year. Bradley should blow through this lineup easily and the first inning shouldn’t give him any trouble.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 25: No (-135)

Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets

First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
Citi Field – Queens, New York
Broadcast – MLB TV

The Braves bats haven’t been what they used to be this year, which is partially due to injury. They will be missing plenty of their heavy hitters on Thursday as they face Luis Severino. He won’t have to see the likes of Ronald Acuna, Michael Harris, Ozzie Albies or Austin Riley. With all of these issues, the Braves have managed just 15 runs over their last five games.

And this is not just a fade of the Braves – Severino has actually been quite good. He has just a 3.58 ERA and has only allowed two earned runs over his last two starts (12.1 innings). That should be enough for him to at least get through the top of the first.

The bottom of the inning is quite simple – Chris Sale is on the mound. The Cy Young front-runner hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in a game in over a month. He’s allowed one or less in four of his last five starts. Betting on him not to allow one in the first seems like an easy play – especially against the Mets who are 24th in the league in scoring in the first inning.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 25: No (-135)
