MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – July 27

Chicago Cubs vs. Kansas City Royals

First Pitch – 7:10 pm EST
Kauffman Stadium – Kansas City, Missouri
Broadcast – MLB TV

It isn’t hard to find a scoreless top of the first inning here, and for multiple reasons. The first one being that the Cubs haven’t scored many runs as of late. They have scored just seven runs in their last five games combined, which comes out to 1.4 runs per game. That trend is likely to continue with Seth Lugo on the bump on Saturday. He has a 2.38 ERA is just a taste of how good the All-Star righty has been. He’s also held his opponents to two or fewer runs in six of his last seven starts. This stagnant Cubs offense is likely not the right one to change that.

Another All-Star will be taking the hill on Saturday night. The Cubs send out Shota Imanaga to bring our NRFI home. While the Royals have been better offensively than the Cubs, Imanaga still poses a tough task for them. He’s allowed three or fewer runs in six of his lat seven starts. He jumped out of the All-Star Break with a 7.0 inning, 10 strikeout outing with just one run surrendered. I’m sure he can get us another three outs on Satiurday.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 27: No (-135)

Seattle Mariners vs. Chicago White Sox

First Pitch – 7:15 pm EST
Guaranteed Rate Field – Chicago, Illinois
Broadcast – Fox

The Mariners had a good night at the plate on Friday with an eight-run first inning. However, that hasn’t been the norm for them recently. Even if you count that game, they have just 19 runs over the last five games (3.8 runs per game). Also, after that first inning, they weren’t particularly potent on Friday.

Now they’ll face Erick Fedde, who has been nailing things down for the White Sox. He’s allowed two or less earned runs in five of his last six starts, including every start in July. In fact, he has a 1.56 ERA in the month of July so far with starts coming against the Rangers, Guardians, and Twins. The Mariners should prove easier for him and an easy path to the NRFI.

On the other side, there is not much to say. The White Sox are the worst scoring team in the majors. They average just over three runs per game this year, and that’s over the whole season. They’ve scored eight runs in their last five games and got shutout on Friday. Bryan Woo should be able to keep that going. He’s been beat up this year in terms of injury, but when he can take the mound, he’s been great. He has a 2.54 ERA and should easily breeze through this struggling White Sox offense.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 27: No (-140)
