MLB NRFI and YRFI Picks – July 28

Atlanta Braves vs. New York Mets

First Pitch – 1:40 pm EST
Citi Field – Flushing, New York
Broadcast – MLB TV

There’s something rotten in Atlanta right now, and I’ll give you a spoiler – it’s their offense. Nothing seems to be working for them as of late. Even in their win over the Mets on Saturday, they managed just four total runs, three of which came on solo home runs. They’ve scored just 15 runs over their last five games and really seem to be struggling with guys in scoring position.

Facing David Peterson likely won’t help matters here. He has a 3.12 ERA heading into Sunday afternoon and has been even hotter as of late. He hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in a game since June 12th. If there’s a knock on his game, it’s that he doesn’t strike out many. Luckily, the Braves strike out a ton and should help him in those matters.

On the other side, the hitting isn’t all that much better. The Mets were shut out by rookie Spencer Schwellenbach on Saturday over 7.0 innings and struck out 11 times. They managed just two hits off of the kid. In this series, they are averaging less than three runs per game. Like with the Braves, facing Reynaldo Lopez isn’t going to help things. He has just a 2.12 ERA this year and is absolutely lights out with men in scoring position.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 28: No (-125)

Seattle Mariners vs. Chicago White Sox

First Pitch – 2:10 pm EST
Guaranteed Rate Field – Chicago, Illinois
Broadcast – MLB TV

For a team with 80 losses already, the White Sox have a surprisingly strong pitching staff, which makes them a team to keep an eye on when it comes to NRFIs. We hit on them on Saturday and we’re in against with Garrett Crochet. He hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs since June 19th. The Mariners strike out more than any team in the majors and rank dead last in team batting average as well. Crochet shouldn’t have any issues recording the first three outs.

On the other side, we have the White Sox hitting. I could probably end my analysis there as that’s how bad they’ve been. They’ve barely averaging over three runs per game on the season They’ve also scored just eight runs in their last five games. Bryce Miller should do well to keep them on that track. He has two straight starts (13.0 innings) without allowing a run. The White Sox are hardly the team to snap that streak.

NRFI/YRFI Bet for July 28: No (-135)
