Monell’s at the Manor to close after 13 years of business

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Monell’s at the Manor will officially close its doors after business on Sunday.

On Saturday and Sunday, the restaurant had a yard sale where customers had a chance to eat their last meal at the manor and go treasure hunting. Monell’s at the Manor will serve their guests during their normal hours with country breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Sunday meal from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The restaurant said it would be closing the location near the airport due to their lease with the Metro Nashville Airport Authority ending.

After Monell’s at the Manor of Murfreesboro Pike closes, fans of the restaurant can continue to enjoy Monell’s at the original location in Germantown at 1235 Sixth Ave. N.

Monells at the Manor is rich with Nashville history. The restaurant, originally the Colemere Mansion, was built in 1898 by the Col. E.W. Cole, a former Confederate officer who served under Gen. Robert E. Lee.

Colonel “King” Cole, worked with Col. W.C. Smith, an architect who also designed Nashville’s Parthenon, to create the Colemere Mansion.

The mansion became known for its “distinguished” guests and “extravagant” social events. According to the Monell’s website, no fewer than five U.S. presidents have visited the mansion.

In 1929, the original home burned down and Colonel Cole’s youngest daughter constructed a new mansion.

In 1940, the mansion was acquired by the city of Nashville and was leased for private use as the Colemere Club.

In 1977, the Colemere Club was transformed into a seafood buffet. Then in 2011, Monell’s founder and owner, Michael King, leased the old home and created Monell’s at the Manor.
