Mortal Kombat 1’s Next Adventure Is a Krisis on Infinite Earths

When Mortal Kombat 1 came out last year, it gave the fighting franchise a full-on reboot with new status quos for its characters. By the time the credits rolled on the story mode, it was clear that NetherRealm was going to do like comics and dip into some multiversal madness for the forseeable future. And like other stories focused on alternate realities, it’s all leading to a bunch of bloody fights.

During the game’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con, NetherRealm revealed the upcoming Khaos Reigns expansion. Plot-wise, it takes place some time after MK1’s story, and concerns an evil Titan version of Havik threatening the new prime universe holding Liu Kang and company. Helping the group against Titan Havik are new versions of Cyrax (Enuka Onuma) and Sektor (Erika Ishii), here reimagined as human women wearing armor similar to their original cyborg ninja designs. But this Havik’s got an ace up his sleeve in Bi-Han (Kaiji Tang), who had his soul transformed into Noob Saibot. The Aftermath expansion for Mortal Kombat 11 set up the story for MK1, so you can probably bet on some Khaos making some big moves of its own.

Along with those three, three guest stars will join Mortal Kombat 1’s roster. If you’ve ever wanted to slice up any MK characters as Ghostface from Scream, the T-1000 from Terminator 2, or Conan the Barbarian, here’s your chance. Both Roger Jackson and Robert Patrick are said to be reprising their respective roles as Ghostface and the T-1000, while Conan’s voice actor is yet to be revealed. It’ll be interesting to see who’s behind Ghostface, especially given the franchise’s often wild non-canonical endings.

Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns launches on September 24, either as its own thing or bundled with the base game and first DLC pack.
