Mother’s Day 2024: Houston area offers shopping opportunities, themed events | Houston Public Media

There is lots of fun to be had around the Houston area this weekend.

The Houston Art Bike Parade & Festival is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at MacGregor Park, and Discovery Green downtown will host the Empire State Jazz Festival starting at noon. There also is the Big As Texas Fest, a music and food festival being held from Friday through Sunday in Montgomery.

But for many local residents, this weekend will be all about the moms in their lives.

Houston and the surrounding areas are hosting a variety of events celebrating Mother’s Day, which is Sunday. There are several markets on Saturday, where gifts can be secured, along with some fun-filled activities throughout the weekend.

Here is a rundown of 10 Mother’s Day-themed events.

SATURDAY

Heights Mercantile Mother’s Day Market | 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at 714 Yale St.

A variety of unique Mother’s Day gifts can be secured at this pop-up market on the promenade, where dozens of vendors are slated to participate. Kids are welcome and so are well-behaved pets. Parking will be limited, so visitors are encouraged to walk, bike or ride share.

Mother’s Day Vendor Fair Shop with a Show | 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at Pearland Town Center, 11200 Broadway St.

A collection of more than 40 vendors will not be only attraction at this Mother’s Day-themed event in Pearland, where food also will be available. A series of musical and stage performances will be on tap as well.

Mother’s Day Vibe Market | noon-5 p.m. at Sugar Land Town Square, 15958 City Walk

More than 85 artists, creatives and makers are set to be on hand for this afternoon market in Sugar Land, which is family-friendly. Music will be played, food can be eaten and a variety of Mother’s Day gifts can be purchased. There also will be professional photo opportunities.

Mother’s Day Groove & Brew | noon-8 p.m. at 8th Wonder Brewery, 2022 Dallas St.

Live music from the School of Rock will be played at this EaDo brewery, where crawfish will be served and food trucks also will be on hand. There also will be plenty of craft beer, of course, for moms and their family and friends.

Mother’s Day Loteria & Chancla Chucking Contest | 1 p.m. at Eureka Heights Brew Co., 941 W. 18th St.

This craft brewery in the Heights neighborhood will have drink specials all day along with a Mother’s Day-themed loteria game. Halfway through, there will be a sandal-throwing contest. Play at your own risk.

SATURDAY-SUNDAY

Shop Local Market Mother’s Day Weekend | 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Houston Farmers Market, 2520 Airline Dr.

This two-day market in the Heights will feature local art, handmade artisan products and jewelry along with fresh flowers and plants. As usual at the Houston Farmers Market, fresh produce will be available as well. Sunday’s festivities will start at 9 a.m. with a free, 60-minute yoga class by Black Swan Yoga.

Mother’s Day Weekend at Bayou Bend Collection & Gardens | 1-5 p.m. at 6003 Memorial Dr.

Mothers and children aged 12 and under get in free at this two-day event where visitors can enjoy nature and art while listening to soothing music. Harp players will perform each afternoon, when complimentary cookies, lemonade and water will be served.

SUNDAY

Mother’s Day Walk | 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Houston Botanic Garden, 1 Botanic Ln.

The Houston Botanic Garden, which on Saturday is holding a plant market and pressed flower card workshop, is unveiling a new event on Sunday that is tailored for Mother’s Day. There will be a nature walk dotted with plants and flowers along with art installations and complimentary wellness treatments, refreshments and a family obstacle course. Admission for adults starts at $25 in advance and $35 at the garden, while the admission for youth ages 4-17 is $15 in advance and $25 at the gate. VIP experiences are available at an additional cost.

Mother’s Day Special at Kemah Boardwalk | noon at 215 Kipp Ave.

There will be live entertainment from noon-9 p.m. at this amusement park southeast of Houston, where there also will be activities, crafts and a raffle for mothers from 1-4 p.m. Moms get a $5 discount off an all-day ride pass with the purchase of another ride pass.

Mother’s Day Sunday Night Comedy Showcase | 8 p.m. at The Riot Comedy Club, 2010 Waugh Dr.

End your Mother’s Day with some laughs at this comedy show held upstairs at Rudyard’s Pub in Montrose. The jokes will be tailored to the holiday. Tickets range from $10-$75.
