Motorists should plan for additional travel time next week between Mancos and Durango

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is reminding motorists of the US 160 chip seal project that will require lane closures and alternating traffic through September.

Beginning Monday, July 29th, travelers should plan for up to a 20-minute delay starting five miles east of Mancos. Work will be completed in a two-mile section, Mile Points 61 to 81, moving east toward Durango. The resurfacing operation is a two-step process that includes an application of asphalt emulsion which is followed up by a layer of crushed rock to an existing pavement surface. CDOT urges motorists to use slower speeds through the work zone.

Working hours will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Traffic impacts will include:

  • Single-lane alternating traffic guided by traffic control operations and a pilot car
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 40 mph in the work zone
  • 15 to 20-minute delays
  • Construction schedules could change depending on the weather
