MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Get ready to kick off the warm season with the Mount Horeb Summer Frolic this weekend!

WMTV 15 News sat down with President of the Mount Horeb Summer Frolic Amy Mertz to discuss the largest community event in Mount Horeb.

According to Mertz, the event has been around for about 56 years and supports the Mount Horeb community.

“We’re a non-profit organization,” said Mertz. “It’s a long weekend festival and all of the profits from the festival are poured back into the community in the form of grants to parks and recreation.”

People can expect a weekend full of entertainment, live music, fireworks and tournaments.

“We have a great music lineup this year,” said Mertz. “We start things off [Thursday] night with Rod Ellenbecker, Friday night is Elizabeth Mary and The Jimmys. Saturday night is 90′s music, The Foo Foo Dolls, so there’s something different every day.”

Mertz says the frolic is considered the start of the summer in Mount Horeb and is a great way for the community to come together and celebrate.

“We have a program with Neighbors Helping Neighbors, which is a social service organization in Mount Horeb, and we work with them and the school district to make sure that kids and families in our area can go to the frolic no matter what their means,” said Mertz.

According to Mertz, they provide carnival and food vouchers, so no one misses out on the festivities.

People can attend the festival from June 6-9 at Grundahl Park. Those interested can find more information here.
