Multiple crashes, slide-offs as freezing drizzle hampers travel in Kansas
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Saturday morning in Wichita and throughout the state, freezing drizzle impacts travel as slick roads cause crashes and slide-offs.
The Wichita Police Department said that Emergency Accident Reporting Plan (EARP) is in effect for the City of Wichita. That means if people are involved in a non-injury accident and the car is drivable, to exchange information and report it to a substation later.
If there are injuries, any vehicle is not drivable, or you believe a crime has occurred, please call 911 so an officer can respond.
Sedgwick County, Derby and Bel Aire also are under EARP, according to dispatch.
Saturday morning, KDOT, sheriff’s offices and police departments reported ice-covered roads across western Kansas and later into Wichita.
Garden City Police Department urged people to stay home as crews in Finney County were dealing with multiple accidents and slide-offs. If people are in a non-injury accident, they’re asking people to just share information.
Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office shared a post after a semi blocked all lanes of K-27.
Around 9 a.m. in Wichita, multiple accidents were reported, impacting travel on major highways and interstates throughout the city. Bridges and overpasses are reported as especially ice-covered. The NWS Wichita shared a post of a video showing a semi-truck sliding along the roads due to the ice. Wichita Fire also asks people to practice extreme caution.
