Mum and baby fitness event supports vulnerable parents

Alice Burnham, from Harwood, hosted the event at Bolton Arena last month, which involved a fun, low-impact fitness class with raffle prizes, refreshments and goody bags for all participants.

The event saw around 55 mums in attendance along with their children and raised £780 for Bolton domestic abuse charity, Fortalice, exceeding the initial target by almost 150 per cent.

Alice said: “It was brilliant. We formed a big circle with all the babies in the middle and everyone was happy.”

She runs Family Inclusive Training (F.I.T) studio, which offers mums and babies a holistic space to socialise and get moving safely after giving birth.

Alice set up her Spring Vale Street studio in Tottington five years ago after having her own children and struggling to find an inclusive space to work out.

In addition to the Tottington studio, F.I.T also has classes in Bolton, led by instructor Keileigh Gibson and in Darwen, led by Laura Raby.

They host several classes and events, from F.I.T Round My Baby, where parents can incorporate children into the workout, to solo adult-only boot camps.

Alice added: “The venue was venue was great and we’re planning on doing it again now that we know we can sort the logistics. The atmosphere was really good, it wasn’t utter chaos like it could have been with so many babies and children there!

“I think we may be going for a world record attempt next year with the most mums working out with babies in the same place.”
