Nashville restaurant owner killed after shootout in parking lot of shopping plaza

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A Nashville restaurant owner was shot and killed during a shootout in the parking lot of an Antioch shopping complex Sunday evening, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

Detectives are pursuing active leads in the investigation into the fatal shooting of 39-year-old Hwarang Joo in the parking lot of a Bell Road shopping complex.

MNPD reports that Joo, the owner of a chicken restaurant in the complex, had just left his restaurant and was sitting in his SUV when gunfire erupted shortly before 11 p.m. He was hit and the SUV accelerated before crashing into a dental office at 1315 Bell Road causing damage.

“Anyone with information on the persons responsible for the gunfire is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463,” MNPD said. “Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000.”
