Nashville welcomes safety support group to downtown entertainment district
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Metro Nashville is welcoming a personal safety support group to the downtown entertainment district.
Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s Office of Nightlife will be introducing the Red Frogs Support Network on Friday night.
The nonprofit has been collaborating with various stakeholders in downtown Nashville to provide their services to help mitigate some of the risks associated with entertainment precincts, the mayor’s office said.
“Through early intervention and harm minimization strategies Red Frogs provide much needed relief and support to venue owners, first responders, and the public. For more than 25 years, the Red Frog Crew has worked across eight countries to support large events or in Nashville’s case, nightly visitors to Broadway and downtown,” the mayor’s office said.
The nonprofit is made up primarily of trained volunteers that aim to reduce the rates of sexual assault, and issues surrounding alcohol consumption and drug use with targeted interventions and safe spaces for party-goers.
“The Red Frogs have proven to be an invaluable partner when it comes to public safety,” said Nightlife Director Benton McDonough. “Whether it’s providing water, helping someone reconnect with their party, or charging a phone; the Frogs provide one more layer of support to make the Entertainment District a safe and memorable experience for all.”
