Nationwide closing of home goods retailer affecting Upstate businesses

BOILING SPRINGS, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – A home goods and furniture store that has been in business for over a century is shutting its doors after filing for bankruptcy, affecting stores across the Southeast, including the Upstate.

Conn’s HomePlus filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last Tuesday and announced it will close around half of its 170 stores. This includes 12 stores in North Carolina and five stores in South Carolina.

Two of those stores are located in the Upstate:

  • Conn’s HomePlus Greenville at 605 Haywood Road
  • Conn’s HomePlus Spartanburg at 106 Peachwood Center Drive

Conn’s is also the parent company of “Badcock Home Furniture & more,” which announced they will close around 35 stores. Stores affected include the Easley location along Calhoun Memorial Highway, as well as the Toccoa, GA location along Big “A” Road South, according to the store’s website.

A Badcock store owner at the Boiling Springs location told FOX Carolina they are also being forced to close their doors.

The announcements come after years of struggles within the furniture industry, due to inflation and effects since the pandemic.
