Navigating holiday shopping amid rising prices while seeking special gifts

The holiday shopping season is in full swing, and shoppers are trying to get everything checked off their Christmas shopping list.

Shoppers CNY Central spoke to are excited about being in the holiday spirit. However, those shoppers who are shopping at big stores are worried about the rising prices of gifts.

Finding the right holiday gift at box stores can be a struggle for those who are on a budget. Danny Meaker said without the help of friends and family, the holiday season would be financially hard to shop.

I mean, prices for everything are through the roof, so it makes shopping for Christmas or anything really hard.

Nick Longo was one of many shoppers out in Fairmount on Friday, getting those holiday gifts on their lists from those big retail stores. Longo also noticed prices rising.

“Prices are up. It’s definitely something you think about—making a budget and setting it so that you have a plan for what you are getting into.”

But he and his family wonder if shopping at those stores is the best way to go about getting the most thoughtful gift.

“Can we get something that is special and personal to each kid in our family?”

Those at the Christmas craft fair that takes place throughout this weekend at the New York State Fairgrounds, like Betty Kline, said they have found those special, personal gifts in a one-stop shop.

“I’ve got all my stuff done, and I am very happy with my purchases. Everything is unique in here I like stuff like that.”

Tom Gangemi thinks that these types of fairs offer a lot of unique items that make for the right holiday gift. “Oh, this is better. You’ve got all different sorts of things to look at Christmas ornaments, tons of Christmas stuff.”

Whether your shopping takes place at a big store or a local one, Kenneth Olivia said it is important to remember to take the holiday joy in.

It’s nice to support small businesses like this. It has a lot more to offer, and I am with my mother, and she is enjoying herself, so it makes me happy.

Many of the big box stores are offering discounts on gifts throughout the holiday season. But if you are looking for those holiday crafts, the craft fair is open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for those unique gifts.
