NCAA baseball tournament bracket 2024: Regionals, super regionals unveiled ahead of College World Series

Published

The 2024 NCAA baseball tournament is here. College baseball’s selection committee unveiled Monday the 64-team field, regional assignments and super regional pairings for this year’s bracket, setting the stage for a thrilling road to Omaha for the College World Series. Tennessee secured the No. 1 overall seed and now seeks to become the first top seed to win the national championship since 1999 — the first year of the current tournament format.

One-quarter of the tournament field already knew its fate entering Selection Monday as the NCAA released Sunday the 16 regional sites and their host schools. Each of those teams earned national seeds.

Stars will be out in full force this postseason. National hitting leader Charlie Condon has Georgia in CWS contention, while ace pitcher Hagen Smith and Arkansas seek their first national title in program history. Oregon State’s Travis Bazzana could also bolster his case for the No. 1 overall MLB Draft pick in the coming weeks.

How does the NCAA baseball tournament work?

The NCAA tournament bracket consists of 16 regionals, each of which contains four teams. The top 16 teams in the field earn national seeds and host three visiting squads in a double-elimination tournament. To the winning team goes a spot in the super regionals.

Each regional pairs up with another, and the winners of those opening rounds meet for a best-of-three series at the higher-seeded team’s home ballpark. The eight super regionals present one victor apiece, and those winning teams earn berths to the College World Series.

This year’s College World Series opens Friday, June 14 at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Neb. Two sides of the CWS bracket compete in double-elimination play, with the winners meeting for a best-of-three national championship series. The CWS finals run from June 22-23/24.
