The docuseries, titled “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders,” was created by Emmy Award-winning director Greg Whiteley with One Potato Productions and Broadwalk Pictures, all known for their work on the well-known Netflix sports docuseries “Cheer.”

According to an article on Netflix’s Tudum, the show will follow the personal stories behind the uniforms through the 2023-24 season, from auditions to the NFL playoffs.

“The kind of access and creative freedom we need to make the kind of work we want to make is not easy to come by — especially when dealing with a brand as large as the Dallas Cowboys,” Whiteley told Netflix. “To their infinite credit, the Cowboys offered unfettered access for the year we filmed the DCC and left us alone. The result is an authentic portrait of one of the most storied and beloved institutions we have in American pop culture.”

Charlotte Jones  —  Dallas Cowboys executive VP, chief brand officer, Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders president and the daughter of team owner Jerry Jones  — said in a statement to Netflix that the team wanted to share the full DCC experience with fans.

“We went into this understanding that the opportunity to transparently share the journey of our season, and the emotions, challenges, and joy experienced along the way, is exactly what our fans and viewers would want,” Jones said to Netflix.

An air date hasn’t been announced by Netflix, but a spokesperson for the streaming service said the docuseries will premiere this summer.

This isn’t the first time the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have been featured in a television series. From 2006 to 2021, the team had a reality show called “Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team” on CMT. The show followed the audition process and training camp as the coaches narrow down the team to the final roster.
