Netherlands Gambling Revenues Up by 21% in 2023
The Netherlands gambling regulator, de Kansspelautoriteit, has released its full year gambling report for 2023 revealing that gross gaming revenue increased by 21.2% to €4 billion for the year.

- 2,456 people treated for gambling addiction, up by 28% compared to 2022
2024 First Half Year Highlights
Online Revenues
- Online gambling – €752 million, up by 8%
- Online casino games (slots, table games) generated 72% of all online revenues
Customer Growth
- Active monthly player accounts – 1.07 million, up from 1 million in December 2023
- Active monthly players – 455,000, up from 452,000 in December 2023
- 5.4% of population played online in first half of 2024
- 95% of customers use licensed sites
Customer Losses
- Online gamblers lost an average of €946 in first half of 2024 – €158 per month
- Young adults (18-23) lose significantly less than average at €55 per month
When the industry first launched, the regulator set a target of 8 out of 10 players using licensed online gambling websites. At the end of 2023, it was estimated that 90% of customers used legal sites only. The first six months of the year indicates that this has grown significantly to 95%.
