New AAA Travel Report: Prices are down for fall travel
If you’re looking to travel, the fall leading up to Thanksgiving is considered the slow season, so you can score some really good deals.
AAA just released its fall travel report, and, as expected, prices are down.
The agency says booking numbers are up for fall.
Cruises have jumped in popularity, up 19% from last year, and the price of domestic and international flights are about the same as last season.
The average domestic roundtrip ticket is $660, and the average international roundtrip ticket is $1,315.
Travelers headed on fall road trips are finding cheaper pump prices compared to last year. Gas prices have been going down since late July, thanks in part to a relatively quiet Atlantic hurricane season.
Drivers renting cars for their autumn adventures are also finding better rates.
The cost to rent a vehicle domestically is down 5%, and down 15% for international car rentals.
Top destinations include Orlando, Boston, Seattle, Denver and Las Vegas.
If traveling abroad, the top spots are Rome, Paris, London, Vancouver and Dublin.
In the fall, you typically save about 30% off peak summer prices. There are fewer crowds, and airports aren’t as busy.
To save the most, experts say, shop around and look for last-minute deals.
