New Battlefield Game Taking Inspiration from BF3 and 4

Key Takeaways

  • The new Battlefield game in development has a modern warfare setting like BF3 and 4.
  • Concept art hints at the inclusion of vehicles like helicopters and ships.
  • The new game will not feature controversial features like Battlefield 2042’s Specialists.

A new Battlefield game is in development, and it will feature a modern warfare setting similar to Battlefield 3 and 4. While Battlefield 2042 was not the runaway success that previous games in the series have been, the franchise remains one of the most important for EA. It’s been three years since Battlefield 2042 hit the scene, and longtime Battlefield fans are growing anxious for a fresh experience.

DICE has put out multiple critically-acclaimed Battlefield games over the years, though some are certainly remembered more fondly than others. Two of the most popular Battlefield games are 3 and 4, which feature a modern warfare setting. Despite the success of those games, the Battlefield titles that came after went for vastly different settings. Battlefield 1 was set during World War 1, while Battlefield V was set during World War 2. Battlefield 2042, meanwhile, was set in the future.

Battlefield fans nostalgic about the glory days of Battlefield 3 and 4 will be happy to learn that the new Battlefield game is going to have a modern warfare setting. This was confirmed in a report by IGN, who spoke with DICE and Respawn exec Vince Zampella. The IGN post included the first concept of the new Battlefield game, which seemingly confirms exciting details about the new project.

New Battlefield Game Concept Art

The concept art for the new Battlefield game seems to confirm vehicles such as helicopters and ships, and the use of natural disasters as a gameplay mechanic. Battlefield 2042 used natural disasters and weather events in its gameplay, so it seems that it may be returning for the new game, with the concept art clearly showing a forest landscape covered in flames.

While that particular feature from Battlefield 2042 may potentially be returning for the new Battlefield game, other features from the controversial 2021 release won’t be carried over to the new project. Battlefield 2042 Specialists are being kicked to the curb, with the new Battlefield seemingly taking a more traditional approach to the franchise’s multiplayer battles. Indeed, Battlefield 2042‘s massive 128 player count is also being scaled back for the new Battlefield, though specific player count numbers were not mentioned in the report.

It’s speculated in IGN’s report that the new Battlefield game may be launching at some point in 2025. If that’s the case, then fans should have a lot more than just concept art to look at sooner rather than later. There’s still plenty to be revealed about the next Battlefield project, but what’s been confirmed so far sounds very promising.
