New business breaks ground
MARSHALL — A corner on a busy Marshall road is looking a lot different these days.
This week, excavation equipment could be seen working on property formerly owned by Quist Moving & Storage at the corner of East Main Street and Boyer Drive.
While more details on the construction project weren’t available this week, the Marshall Economic Development Authority posted on social media that the property will become a Les Schwab Tire Center.
Phone messages to a representative of CenterPointe Development, the company developing the property, were not answered as of Friday. However, Todd Quist of Quist Moving & Storage confirmed the business sold their East Main Street property in 2023. Since then, Quist Moving & Storage has moved to a new location along Minnesota Highway 23.
Quist said his father and grandfather started Quist Moving & Storage in Pipestone in 1969. Today, the business has locations in Fairmont and Marshall. Quist said they had been at the East Main Street location in Marshall for more than 30 years.
Quist said the decision to sell the property was partly a matter of space.
“The building was a little bit small for us,” Quist said. When they got an offer for the property, they had a chance to expand at a new location.
Quist Moving & Storage just moved into its new facilities on Highway 23 this spring, he said.
Les Schwab Tire Centers was founded in Oregon in 1952. The company offers products and services for tires, brakes, wheels, alignment, batteries, shocks and struts.
Currently, the closest Les Schwab Tire Center locations to Marshall are in Sioux Falls and Watertown, South Dakota, according to the company website.
