New college football format brings more customers to Omaha sports bars in the middle of the week

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – This year’s bowl season has been a bit different.

With games in the middle of the week, Nikole Eliakis is the manager of Addy’s Sports Bar and Grill in downtown Omaha, and she told First Alert 6 those games away from the weekend bring in a bonus of customers watching the games.

“Yeah, it helps us though, you know, it brings people out in the middle of the week, so everyone’s coming around hung over from yesterday,” Eliakis said.

She said Creighton Basketball is one thing that hasn’t changed, the games bringing in a good group of fans, and it helps being so close to the Bluejays’ home court.

“The Creighton game, you know, a block away from us really helps bring in a lot of people, the weather not being too bad helps us as well,” she said.

Eliakis said the NCAA’s new 12-team football playoff system is also a bonus, offering more games to put on TVs.

“It brings people in for lunch, brings people in for dinner later tonight for the other games, unfortunately the sugar bowl did get postponed, terrible situation but it’s something to look forward to tomorrow,” She said.
