New entertainment ‘shuffles’ into West Bottoms: 10 shuffleboard courts to open in September

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A new business that expects to open in early September is bringing 10 shuffleboard courts to the West Bottoms – six indoors and four out on their patio.

Larks Entertainment has picked 1527 W. 9th Street in Kansas City to expand after they’ve seen success in Fairview, Texas.

Dylan Theno is the general manager of the new location, and he is a native of Kansas City.

“We provide all the tangs and all the biscuits, and for everybody that’s curious, the tangs are the sticks that you use, and the biscuits are the little pucks,” Theno said. “During the week (Sunday through Thursday) it’s $40 per hour and then Friday and Saturdays it’s $50 an hour, and it’s up to 10 people per court.”

The shuffleboard courts can also be used for cornhole, also known as bags and are regulation size for both. Larks will also offer a full bar and kitchen.

“We’re really known for our quesadillas,” Theno said. “We’re trying to bring that Kansas City aspect to Larks, so we’re going to be adding things to the menu that they don’t have in Texas like a real big tenderloin.

Menu items also include smash burgers, cheese curds, flatbreads and even some barbeque options.

The new restaurant/entertainment is the latest development to the West Bottoms that has also included the demolition of the Weld Wheel building, and the mixed-apartments that developer Somera Road is putting in its stead.

Also, down the road the Rock Island Bridge Entertainment district promises to be a big attraction in the Spring of 2025.

“They’re working hard to make it nice down here, but still keep that kind of old school historic Kansas City feel,” Theno said. “We’re hoping to be open that first week of September, just in time for the Chiefs home opener – that way we can cheer our boys on from here.”

Larks Entertainment in the West Bottoms will also offer arcade games, and an event space that can be rented out for special occasions.

The other cities Larks plans to expand to are Nashville, San Antonio, San Diego, St. Petersburg, Boston and Atlanta.

“Larks vision of “entertainment” is a place that has great food, a busy bar scene, and fun experiences that appeal to a wide age-range of people,” Curt Skallerup, Larks Co-Founder and CEO said in a press release. “Simply put, it’s a place you want to go for lunch, dinner, on a date, for a girls or guys night out, host your next corporate or group event, or bring the family for an always enjoyable experience.”
