New Fine for Using Shopping Carts in Public
Yakima, Wash. — There is the possibility of fines for using shopping carts in public.
At Tuesday’s Yakima city council meeting there will be a discussion on fining people for using shopping carts in public. The council members will be considering a new ordinance for using store carts in public rights-of-way, like streets and parks. If passed the ordinance would allow city officials to seize shopping carts and impound abandoned or lost carts in private areas. The fine would cost $50 for people operating the carts in public areas and owners would have up to 14 days to retrieve their impounded cart.
