New grant opportunity for small businesses in city of Ironton
IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) – The city of Ironton is accepting applications from small businesses to get their hands on grant money through the city’s economic development fund.
The goal of this program is to help supplement the costs of capital improvements and business growth.
According to the city, additional consideration is given to applicants using the funds to match current spending for improvements or trying to create more jobs.
“The funds that are allocated to the city’s economic development fund, which is where these funds are pulled from, is nothing on the Ironton city taxpayer. These are solely hotel tax revenues that come from the stays that are at our two hotels here in the city,” Mayor Sam Cramblit said.
If you’re awarded a portion of this grant money, as long as you follow all the guidelines and use the money for the specified reasons detailed in the application, Mayor Cramblit says you do not have to pay those funds back to the city.
Employees at Kouns Korner are among those interested in applying.
“I know what it takes to run a small business. There is a lot that we need. We could use a new kitchen space, maybe some more parking, maybe some more seating because we’re growing more rapidly than we ever would have thought which is a great thing. There’s so many things that we could do with this money and we’re so excited to get into the process of applying,” Daly Malone said.
Applications are available online here. The grant application is titled as “Economic Development Forgivable Loan (Grant) Application).
You may also print out an application under the “Downloadable Forms” section on the website and turn it into the mayor’s office in person.
The deadline to apply is noon Friday, June 14.
