New initiative aims to link Westport students with jobs | Westport Journal

WESTPORT — A new program has been launched to help local high school students looking for jobs find a broad range of employment opportunities.

The “Westport Student Job Bank,” planned by the town’s Youth Commission, is designed “to create a new pathway to expand employment opportunities for high school students in Westport,” Kevin Godburn, the town’s youth services director, said in a statement  announcing the initiative.

The jobs bank platform will be managed by QuadJobs, a Greenwich firm that, through an online portal, will register and vet both employers offering jobs and student job seekers. There is no registration fee for work-eligible high school students in Westport.

Jake Shufro, a Staples High School sophomore and Youth Commission member, initially suggested the idea “to create a high school student-focused job board.”

Shufro and fellow commission members consulted with local business owners to explore “their needs and how we can increase engagement between businesses and students,” Shufro said in an email.

QuadJobs was selected to manage the initiative because “it encourages a diverse range of students to sign up for job opportunities, and it takes a community-based approach to local employment,” Shufro said.

The Westport Student Job Bank will accept a range of work opportunities posted by both businesses and households.
