New Lifestyle Boutique in Newport Offers Whimsical Shopping Experience

A new retail store that aims to bring divine energy and a whimsical shopping experience to Greater Cincinnati has opened its doors in Newport.

Monmouth St. Mercantile, located at 1001 Monmouth St., offers a carefully curated collection of books, jewelry, home goods, teas, candles and apothecary products. Founders Wendy Braun and Tatum Davis say they want their shop to bring more enchantment to the life of the modern woman. The duo met while teaching high school and said they dreamed of opening a space that weaved creativity with inner growth and community connection.

“We want to inspire people to welcome enchantment into their everyday lives by offering a collection of treasures that speak to the heart of a person and their inner child,” Davis said in a press release.

“Our intention has always been to create a space where you can experience a bit of whimsy, wonder and healing, while nurturing a general respect for all that makes you divine. So we’ve done our best to curate goods which support that experience,” added Braun.

Braun, dubbed Monmouth St. Mercantile’s “Keeper of Keys,” brings her expertise in design and decor to the business, having created the aesthetic for neighboring restaurant The Baker’s Table with a collection of unique pieces. Meanwhile, Davis, a.k.a. “The Goddess of Goods,” has an eye for artistry and a strong belief in the power of plant medicine and the connection with the natural world, which helps her curate one-of-a-kind goods and treats not found elsewhere in the area.

Monmouth St. Mercantile is celebrating its grand opening this week, just in time for the Autumnal Equinox. The store’s hours are Wednesday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’ll be offering tea and treats for the rest of the week, and the first five customers on Saturday, Sept. 21 will receive a free loaf of sourdough. And if you spend $15 in-store, you can enter for the chance to win a giveaway.

Monmouth St. Mercantile has moved into the former bakery that was operated by The Baker’s Table. The Baker’s Table will continue to offer its Saturday artisan sourdough bread orders and cooking classes in partnership with Monmouth St. Mercantile.
