New Word About Core Ultra 200S Processors Prompts Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) Dip – TipRanks.com

Intel’s (INTC) work in developing new processors has been delivering some exciting new possibilities, at a time when the chip stock needs all the help it can get. But some of the word about the Core Ultra 200S series is proving a bit mixed, as Intel shares were down almost 1.5% in Thursday afternoon’s trading.

Intel has had a bit of an issue with power in its chips for some time now. Particularly in terms of how much of it they consume. But the Core Ultra 200S line is particularly focused on performance per watt, reports note. That in turn should make the Core Ultra 200S not only a potent chip in terms of overall performance, but also a comparatively quiet chip in terms of how much energy it takes to run them.

The processors, which are expected to go on sale October 24, also have a bit of a troublesome aspect, according to a CNET report. The report in question noted, right in the headline, “…Few Reasons to Upgrade.” As it turns out, the Arrow Lake processors represent an “architecture overhaul generation,” the report noted. While with this, Intel’s chips use less power, and make less heat, and also offer some new features, it ultimately boils down to “…a nonessential, wait a while choice.”

Already Looking to the Next Generation

But Intel is letting very little grass grow under its feet. It has already started working on the next generation of Xe3 graphics. The upcoming Battlemage line will use Xe2, and since we are all still waiting on Battlemage chips to show up, that shows us all how dedicated Intel is to keeping up with its competitors.

There will be a bit of a wait before we get any idea how good the Xe3 line turns out to be. Next year’s Panther Lake tools will be the first to get Xe3 graphics included. It is expected, though, that the Xe3 will represent a substantial improvement going forward thanks to “cross-driver collaboration and enabling of upcoming hardware,” noted a Phoronix report.

Is Intel a Buy, Hold or Sell?

Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Hold consensus rating on INTC stock based on one Buy, 26 Holds and seven Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 36.15% loss in its share price over the past year, the average INTC price target of $25.38 per share implies 9.56% upside potential.
