New World Bringing Back Thanksgiving Event for 2024

New World: Aeternum is gearing up for the holiday season with the return of the Turkulon event. In a game modeled after the American colonial era, it’s only fitting that players get a special Thanksgiving-themed event. Unlike the first real-world Thanksgiving, though, the New World version involves taking down a giant, murderous turkey monster.

Turkulon first appeared in 2021, and New World brought back its Thanksgiving event in 2022 and 2023, each time with minor adjustments and new content. Now that the game has come to consoles, the Feathered Avenger of Death is back and bigger than ever. Anyone who’s ever wondered what Thanksgiving would be like if it were a little more like Monster Hunter has some great times ahead of them.

The official New World: Aeternum announced Turkulon’s return in a November 15 tweet, confirming the monstrous turkey will be available to hunt from November 20 through December 3. Players who successfully take down the feathered beast can get special items like the Grand Gobbler war hammer, a new skin for their boots, massive turkey legs, and the brand-new Drumstick of Death flail skin. The specific drops vary between players, but killing Turkulon 16 times will guarantee users can get their hands on everything. Hopefully, the update will avoid the crashes New World‘s Halloween update brought, though the post says nothing of bug fixes, focusing instead on all the new content coming.

New World: Aeternum’s Turkulon Event Promises a Cornucopia of New Goodies

Turkulon will appear all throughout Aeternum, and players can take it on either on their own or in a group, but group members will have to deal enough damage to receive any rewards. While the fight is a great way to gain experience after New World: Aeternum nerfed some XP gains, those who don’t want to hunt down the level 66 boss can still get in on the Thanksgiving fun. Plenty of normal turkeys will also roam about, offering a handful of limited-time rewards for those who kill and skin them. ​​​​

Regular turkeys will have a 20% chance of dropping Turkulon’s Claw Skinning Knife, which players can use to get extra loot while skinning the birds. These include items like the Infused Turkey Coating, Infused Turkey Ward Potion, and Turkey Luck Potion, all of which make it easier to find, fight, and reap the rewards of Turkulon. Enhanced combat is one of the best improvements in New World: Aeternum over the vanilla version of the game, and these drops encourage taking advantage of it by making Turkulon a more approachable foe. However people want to play, though, there’s a feast of new fun to be had in Aeternum this Fall.
