New York Philharmonic’s free summer concerts return

The New York Philharmonic’s free summer concert series is returning to public parks in New York City, officials said Monday.

The iconic summer concert series, presented by Didi and Oscar Schafer, is set to kick off this week with shows at four city parks and one indoor concert, a press release said.

New Yorkers can expect a program featuring music by Beethoven, Elgar, Rimsky-Korsakov, Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, and more, the philharmonic said.

Outdoor performances will begin at 8 p.m., while the indoor concert in Staten Island will begin at 4 p.m. Tickets will be required for the indoor concert. The performances at the parks will conclude with fireworks.

Here is where the concerts will be held:

Tuesday, June 11 at 8 p.m. — Van Corlandt Park, the Bronx

Wednesday, June 12 at 8 p.m. — Central Park, Manhattan

Thursday, June 13 at 8 p.m. — Cunningham Park, Queens

Friday, June 14 at 8 p.m. — Prospect Park, Brooklyn

Sunday, June 16 at 4 p.m. — St. George Theatre, Staten Island
