Newport Beach shooting: One dead during robbery at Fashion Island
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – At least one person was killed during a robbery and shooting at Fashion Island mall in Newport Beach.
Officers responded to the area Tuesday afternoon for reports of a robbery near the Barnes & Noble bookstore.
Officials say two people were shot. An elderly woman died, and another person was seriously injured.
Mayor Will O’Neill said the suspects may have fled in a vehicle to the LA area. SkyFOX was over that chase as the alleged shooting suspect was taken into custody. Two suspects ran from the car, and one was taken into custody.
Newport Beach police say multiple officers are on scene and the public is urged to avoid the area.
