Next Apple Watch SE Could Come In A Plastic Casing With Vibrant Colors, Which Could Be Less Durable Than Current Models
The Apple Watch has come a long way since its launch in 2015, and this year’s versions could come with a redesigned chassis, which is believed to be thinner and slightly bigger than the current versions. The company has gradually upgraded the wearables while adding more models to the mix, such as the Apple Watch Ultra and the budget Apple Watch SE. It is now being reported that the next iteration of the Apple Watch SE will feature a plastic chassis.
The next iteration of the Apple Watch SE could come in hard, plastic casing, possibly to encourage adults to get it for their kids
According to Mark Gurman, Apple will release the Apple Watch SE with a hard plastic material, potentially to save costs and keep the prices at bay. The analyst is adamant that it is “sounding increasingly likely” that the wearable will feature a rigid plastic material instead of aluminum. The plastic variant will also appeal to parents who are looking to get an Apple Watch for their children to avail Find My and cellular features.
The plastic Apple Watch could bring the same initiative from the company as the iPhone 5C, which was also made from hard, rigid plastic. The company also launched a new website back in July that encouraged parents to get a cellular Apple Watch for children. Apple’s “Apple Watch For Your Kids” website boasted various features that could prove to be beneficial for parents, including location tracking, calling, messaging, and activity tracking. Parents can set up Apple Watch for their kids through their iPhones, which means that their activity would be synced, and it is a great tool for school.
The Apple Watch’s chassis’s plastic nature opens doors to new color options, similar to the iPhone 5C lineup, to appeal to parents and kids. The company could offer the plastic Apple Watch in vibrant color options instead of pastels like the standard iPhone lineup. This would also allow the Apple Watch to be widely different from the higher-end models with aluminum and stainless steel casings.
The current iteration of the Apple Watch SE is also different from the standard models with its modified features, but its appearance closely resembles the high-end versions. The company could be working to create a wider gap between the two models while appealing to parents. However, Apple could offer the upcoming SE in black and white color options as well, which will keep the wearable open to adults.
We have to note that aluminum is more scratch-resistant and overall more durable than plastic, and this could be the only downside of the material. We will share additional details on the device as soon as further information is available. Do you think Apple will lower the price of the Apple Watch SE after enclosing it in plastic?
