Japan-based Nissan Motor Corp. will cut 9,000 jobs and 20 percent of its global manufacturing capacity, the automaker announced Thursday.
It is unclear how the cuts will affect Nissan’s U.S. headquarters (Nissan North America Inc.) in Cool Springs or its manufacturing facility in Smyrna.
The cuts are being undertaken to allow the company to reduce current fiscal year costs by $2.6 billion. They come as Nissan released its quarterly report, with the figures noting the company battling vehicle sales slumps in both the U.S. and China.
