The No. 24 Georgia soccer team fell to UCF 2-0 on the road at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex. The Bulldogs’ best chance at a goal came in the 74th minute, when graduate forward Margie Detrizio’s sent a shot that hit the crossbar and fell in front of the net. After a review, the no-call ended up standing and Georgia went on to lose the game in a shutout.
“I thought it was a really tough game,” head coach Keidane McAlpine said. “UCF’s an extremely good team and they were fresh, so it made it difficult for us to raise our energy level back where we needed to win a game like this.”
UCF’s Ella Holloran scored in the 41st minute to give the Knights the lead. Shortly after, Chloe Netzel got an assist from Jada Silvest that extended UCF’s lead in the 48th minute. That was all the Knights ended up needing to outlast Georgia.
Coming off of her career-high 14 save game at FSU, junior goalkeeper Jordan Brown made two impressive stops early in the first half. Junior Cate Hardin also recorded a save as she blocked a shot in the second half.
Detrizio led the Bulldogs with four shots, including two on frame. The team recorded a total of 10 shots with four on frame. UCF tallied up 11 shots with 6 on frame.
“I thought the way we fought to the end was commendable,” McAlpine said, “We created some chances. We just didn’t take advantage of it. We’re going to have to go back to the drawing board and reset ourselves. But for this first stretch of games we’ve played, this one’s disappointing because I don’t think we gave ourselves enough of a chance.”
Georgia will next face Illinois at home on Sept. 5 at 6:30 p.m.
