Northwestern takes fourth, Chippewa sixth at Chippewa Invitational Tournament
DOYLESTOWN – The second annual Chippewa Invitational Tournament on Sunday proved to be nothing more than a demonstration of domination. Chippewa senior Gabi Gartin (120) and sophomore Kayla Moroschan (115) put on a clinic as they both won their weight classes with some flair and style.
Gartin, a returning state qualifier, opened her day with a 15-5 major decision before simply pinning her next four opponents to clinch her title. Twice she notched pins in the first period and twice more, she ended her match within the first 38 seconds of the second period as she dominated her matches with a smile.
Moroschan, a defending state champion, opened her day going 3-0 in pool play. Then she checked into her bracket, and it felt more like it was her vs the clock as she pinned all three opponents in the first period. The sophomore finished with five pins on the day as she won her weight class title and did it with a ‘just another day in the office’ look.
For the host, it was a good showing as they finished sixth with 73 points with four of their six wrestlers hitting the mats. Northwestern was the highest local team finisher, as it took fourth with a team score of 87.
Junior Kelsee Smith led the Huskies with a third-place finish and 22 points, while Lilly Poore, Kaylee Cherry and Mallory Bloom had big day’s as well. Smith went 4-1 on the day with four pins as she came back through the consolation rounds to snap up third place at 170.
