Notre Dame football vs. Florida State live updates/scoring plays
Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman on first CFP rankings
Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman downplays the initial College Football Playoff rankings ahead of 2024 debut on Tuesday Nov. 5
What looked like a great matchup on paper going into the season is not that at all Saturday when No. 10 Notre Dame (7-1) football hosts Florida State (1-8) for the lone night home game of the season for the Fighting Irish (7:30 p.m., NBC). The Seminoles went 13-0 and won the ACC title last year, but were left out of the four-team playoff due to a late-season injury to quarterback Jordan Travis.
Florida State has plummeted since, losing 66-7 to Georgia in last season’s Orange Bowl before dropping eight of its first nine games to start this season, raising questions about the future of head coach Mike Norvell with the program.
The Irish are coming off an idle week and pounding previous unbeaten Navy, 51-14, on October 26. Notre Dame landed at No. 10 in the first College Football Playoff rankings held Tuesday night.

South Bend Tribune staff predictions for Game 9 against Florida State
MIKE BERARDINO: Notre Dame 45, Florida State 3. Not quite the “Blowout of the Century,” but no letdown for the Irish off their second bye week.
TOM NOIE: Notre Dame 37, Florida State 0. One team is peaking and has everything still to play for this season while the other has nothing left to play for and wants no part of a November night in Northern Indiana. It will show on both sidelines.
AUSTIN HOUGH: Notre Dame 42, Florida State 13. The score the last time these two teams played in South Bend, also a November game when ND had everything to play for and FSU nothing in 2018. There’ll be no awful green uniforms with blue numbers this time at least, thankfully.
