Notre Dame women’s basketball welcomes the return of Maddy Westbeld

Notre Dame graduate forward Maddy Westbeld is suited up to play against No. 17-ranked North Carolina this afternoon, per the Notre Dame women’s basketball X account (formerly Twitter).

Westbeld has been sitting after pre-season foot surgery, but had indicated she would return for Atlantic Coast Conference play.

The 6-foot-3 Westbeld is not in the starting lineup.

Last season, Westbeld nearly averaged a double-double with 14.4 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game. She made 34 starts, sitting out one contest in concussion protocol. She was on the Wooden Award Watch List and the Katrina McClain Watch List.

As junior, she was the All-ACC Tournament first team, the All-ACC season second team, averaging 11.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists while starting all 33 games.

Notre Dame is ranked No. 3 and has an 11-2 overall record and is 2-0 in the ACC.
