Novato business smashed by vehicle during burglary

A vehicle crashed into a Novato storefront as part of a burglary, and an East Bay man was arrested in connection with the case, police said.

The incident occurred at about 3 a.m. Saturday at the Specialty Tobacco Outlet at 925 Diablo Ave. Investigators reviewed video evidence and saw that five participants and two vehicles were involved in the crime, according to the Novato Police Department.

An initial pursuit on Highway 101 was called off because of unsafe speed, but a suspect was arrested later after a crash in Richmond.

Jeremy Vernchan Fong, 26, of Oakland was arrested on suspicion of evading police, burglary, hit-and-run driving, conspiracy, vehicle theft and vandalism. He was booked into the Marin County Jail, where his bail amount was set at $70,000.

The investigation is continuing and no other suspects have been arrested, police said Monday.
