November 21 Vallejo/Vacaville Arts and Entertainment Source: Alibi Bookshop in Vallejo welcomes award-winning writer Dave Eggers
Opened in June 2019, Alibi Bookshop in downtown Vallejo often welcomes authors and book lovers for events, like monthly bookclub or signings. However, owner Karen Finlay says Dave Egger’s upcoming visit is different.
“This one’s pretty special because Dave Eggers is really special,” says Finlay.
Eggers, whose career has been on a roll since his debut book, “A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius,” is coming to Alibi Bookshop on Saturday for a meet and greet after the recent release of several short stories.
Eggers is the founder of independent publishing company McSweeney’s and is the co-founder of 926 Valencia, a writing center for youth, both based in San Francisco.
Saturday won’t be his first time at Alibi Bookshop. He stopped by last year and signed copies of Newbery Award winner “The Eyes and the Impossible.”
The Newbery Medal is awarded by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association. It was awarded to Eggers for his contribution to children’s literature.
“I want people to be able to talk to him and fan over him,” said Finlay, adding that meet-and-greet events are “a cool opportunity for people to pick up signed books to give to their loved ones.”
She is also excited about increased traffic in the bookshop and downtown as a whole. “I think it’s also kind of a treat for the community to have something fun to do downtown.
