SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Summer jobs could become full-time opportunities.

According to the most recent numbers, Missouri’s unemployment rate is 3.4 percent. In Springfield, that number drops to 2.9 percent, down from 3.3 percent in March.

The Missouri Economic Research and Information Center examines the ten-year outlook for jobs in the state. In the Ozarks region, which includes Greene, Christian, and Taney Counties, the top job openings include fast food, counter sales, and retail sales for those with a high school education or less. Jobs requiring a high school education include tractor-trailer truck drivers, restaurant cooks, and nursing assistants. Jobs that require a four-year college degree or higher are general and operations managers, registered nurses, and accountants.

Long-term projections show that by 2030, the greatest need in the Ozarks Region will be in the arts and design area, food preparation and service, and personal care occupations.

Missouri’s labor force includes more than 3 million people, with 105,000 unemployed. Missouri’s 3.4 percent unemployment rate is lower than the National rate of 3.9 percent.
