NVIDIA To End GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER GPU Supply By November As RTX 5090 & 5080 Expected To Launch Simultaneously

NVIDIA is allegedly going to end production & supply of its GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER GPU amid the upcoming RTX 5090 & RTX 5080 launch.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Also Expected To See Supply Discontinuation After RTX 4090 & RTX 4090D As Green Team Preps For Next-Gen Launches

Recently, we reported that NVIDIA is going to end the supply of its GeForce RTX 4090 & RTX 4090D GPUs to AIBs as a measure to ease up inventory and make room for the upcoming RTX 50 graphics cards. Since the report, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 has been in short supply at several EU retail outlets and the prices are going through the roof. With that said, it looks like there are now reports that a third high-end GPU will soon be facing a similar situation.

According to Chinese Board Channels, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER which launched earlier this year is now expected to see limited supply in the coming month with production expected to end this month following the end of supply in the coming month (November). As of right now, the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER remains readily available and prices haven’t seen an uptick like the RTX 4090 which was already being sold for much higher than its MSRP.

According to the latest news, the first models of NVIDIA RTX50 series new products are indeed more than just RTX5090\5090D models. It is very likely that the RTX5080 series will be released simultaneously.

So regarding the discontinuation and supply planning of the old models RTX4090\4090D\4080S series, according to the more accurate information disclosed by the upstream manufacturers, the following is:

  1. RTX4090\4090D series models have been discontinued and will be discontinued in October GPU, the remaining time is mainly for various manufacturers to digest inventory.
  2. The RTX4080S series will be discontinued next month and GPU supply will be discontinued in November. In the remaining time, manufacturers will mainly digest inventory.

So from our understanding of the discontinuation process, the following is what’s happening:

  • RTX 4090/4090D (GPU Production) – Ended In September
  • RTX 4090/4090D (GPU Supply AIB) – Ending in October
  • RTX 4080 SUPER (GPU Production) – Ending in October
  • RTX 4080 SUPER (GPU Supply AIB) – Ending in November

The information also reveals that NVIDIA is now considering simultaneously launching its next-gen enthusiast solutions which would include the GeForce RTX 5090 and the GeForce RTX 5080. Both of these GPUs will be aiming at the ultra-enthusiast segment and replacing the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 SUPER (RTX 4080 was already replaced by the SUPER variant in early 2024).

The preliminary specifications of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPUs have already been leaked though it is very likely that while we might see the announcement and launch of the graphics card on the same day, the actual retail launch will be on separate dates since that’s the strategy that NVIDIA has been adopting for a while now. The launch is expected to take place in early 2025 around CES.
