NYC’s best pizza deal: Staten Island’s slices are cheaper, but still world-class

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A good slice traditionally has proven to be a satisfying meal — and a cheap one at that. By today’s standards, that would be an order of a plain, New York slice at the average of $3.01.

The following list shows the range of pricing at Staten Island eateries — many coming in below the citywide average — and is the result of phone calls to a sampling of 25 Staten Island restaurants picked from our recently updated Pizza Map.

Although not comprehensive, the average slice for this sampling comes in at $2,86, suggesting that, on Staten Island, you can not only get top-of-the-line and world-class pizza… you can get it cheaper.

Because the borough has an amazing 177 spots to buy pizza, not all will be cheaper, and in fact some specialty pies are $30+.

But for these slices, you can bring a five dollar bill, and take home change.

There are a few things to keep in mind:

  • New York sales tax for 2024 is 8.875%. This percentage is not reflected in the gathered data.
  • Due to the number of pizzerias under the locally owned Pronto Pizza brand — there are five of them — Pronto becomes a notable price gauge for the borough. That is why all five locations are figured into the data.
  • See the business’ website for pricing updates.
  • Pizza prices in this discussion were culled data retrieved by phone calls to each establishment between July 9 and July 11, 2024.
  • Slice sizes vary by each business.
  • In this overview, the cheapest slices on Staten Island come from the North Shore at $2.50. See asterisked (*) businesses — A&S of St. George, Paesano’s of Meiers Corners and Famous Pizza of New Brighton.
