Oakland pizzeria stays in business due to community assistance

(KRON) — An Oakland pizzeria that was on the brink of closure is staying in business after asking for community assistance.

Philomena opened in 2016. In addition to the normal ups and downs of owning and operating a business, inflation of food costs has surged over the years.

The restaurants issued a letter to consumers to “help save Philomena Pizza.”

The pizzeria asked the “Philomena Phamily” to complete these tasks:

  • Dine-in and spread joy
  • Order directly from the restaurant, not a third-party
  • Purchase a gift card from the restaurant
  • Celebrate at the restaurant and order catering
  • Order from Philomena’s new location
  • Complete a survey

The community was receptive to the call to action. The restaurant showed its gratitude in an Instagram post: “We are honored to be a part of this community. Thank you to those that have been here for decades welcoming us with open arms, and thank you to our newer neighbors for your continued support! Community is why we are still here. THANK YOU ALL!”

The original pizzeria is located at 1801 14th Avenue. The new Philomena location is at 5333 Adeline Street, which does not have a dining room.
