‘Charlie’ at TBR

Tickets are on sale for Theatre Baton Rouge’s Young Actors Program’s production of the musical, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” opening Oct. 11, on the Main Stage, 7155 Florida Blvd.

At LSU Museum of Art

The LSU Museum of Art in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St., will open “In a New Light: American Impressionism 1870–1940, Works from the Bank of America Collection” on Oct. 18; and “Rembrandt, Goya, and Dürer: The Marvel of Old Masters” on Oct. 31.

‘Mean Girls’ to open 

Tickets are on sale for BREC’s Independence Park Theatre & Cultural Center’s Fall Intensive Program’s production of “Mean Girls the Musical” at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Oct. 12 at the theater, 7800 Independence Blvd.

‘Annie’ at CYT

Tickets are on sale for Christian Youth Theatre’s production of the musical, “Annie,” opening Oct. 24, at the Shaver Theatre in the LSU Music and Dramatic Arts Building, Dalrymple Drive.

Art Guild show

The Art Guild of Louisiana’s “Autumn Judged Show” runs through Nov. 14 at Independence Park Theatre, 7800 Independence Park Blvd. There will be a reception from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 13, when the winners of the exhibit will be announced.

Call for submissions 

The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge is seeking artists’ submissions for its Black History Month exhibit, “Eternal Celebration of the Black Experience — here, now, forever.” Artists are encouraged to explore the profound and everlasting aspects of Black culture, history and identity. Submissions should focus on joy, resilience and the indomitable spirit that continues to shape Black communities.

Former LSU defensive end turned artist, Brandon Surtain, serves as guest curator. The New Orleans native’s personal experience with displacement, gentrification and community loss following Hurricane Katrina has deeply influenced his artistic perspective.

The deadline for submissions is Dec. 31. The exhibit opens in the Shell Gallery at the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center Jan. 27, 2025, and runs through March 12.

Live From Laurel Canyon 

Tickets are on sale for “Live From Laurel Canyon — Songs & Stories of American Folk Rock,” a 90-minute journey through one of the most influential periods in American music history, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17, at the Manship Theatre in the Shaw Center for the Arts, 100 Lafayette St.

Bachtoberfest

Tickets are on sale for the first concert in the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra’s 2024-25 Chamber Series, Bachtoberfest, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11, at the Main Library 7711 Goodwood Blvd.

Seating will be available and food will be for sale for this outdoor concert, but patrons are encouraged to bring their own chairs and picnics.

Members show

The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge’s exhibit, “Arts Council Members+,” will open Oct. 4 in the Shell Gallery of the Cary Saurage Community Arts Center, 233 St. Ferdinand St.

The exhibit highlights works by the Arts Council’s member artists. A reception is set for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 25. The show runs through Dec. 31.

Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, visit artsbr.org.

Applications sought

The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge is accepting applications for the 2025 Everett G. Powers Fund for Creativity Award, established by the former Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge CEO in celebration of its 50th anniversary. The grant, which seeks to inspire innovation through the creative process, is offered annually to support new projects focusing on creativity and artistic excellence. individuals and organizations in the Capital Region.

Applicants don’t have to be an artist or arts organization, and the new project must take place between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2025. Application deadline is Oct. 18. For more information, visit artsbr.org.

‘#Snap’ in Hammond

The Hammond Regional Arts Center, 217 E. Thomas St., Hammond, will open the cellphone photography exhibition “#Snap” with a reception at 5 p.m. Oct. 4, in the Mezzanine Gallery. The show will run through Oct. 31. Its purpose is to encourage participants to explore the world around them through the lens of their camera phones.

At NUNU

Tickets are on sale for a performance by Bo, Brian and Edward, featuring Bo Billeaud, Brian Nolan, and Edward DeMahy, at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 4.

Finally, tickets are on sale for the NUNU Boo! Bash Fundraiser and Celebration from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 26, featuring live music by Bonsoir Catin with Christine Balfa & Friends, followed by DJ Shane Guidry. The night also will have food, drinks, costume contest, auctions and dancing.
