October kicks off seasonal shopping deals from big-name stores: What to look out for

It’s only October, but holiday sales are already underway.

Amazon Prime will have its ‘Big Deal Days’ on Tuesday and Wednesday, with other major retailers following suit with their sales.

Consumers can start to expect Black Friday-type deals on clothing, electronics, toys, and home goods.

“I’m expecting lots of big sales in early to mid-October. That’s typically when Amazon has their Prime sale. And then we always see a comparable sales from Walmart and Target…and then Kohl’s, JC, Penney, Macy’s, lots of stores will be having their competitive sales around that time,” shopping expert Trae Bode said. “It really is what consumers expect, and it really is the kickoff to the holiday shopping season.”

You’ll find deeply discounted deals on summer items like garden equipment, lawnmowers, patio furniture, and grills. Summer clothing is drastically reduced, some up to 80% off.

Everything for Halloween is on sale including candy, costumes, and decor, but deals are out there on toys and holiday gifts.

During Amazon’s ‘Big Deal Days’, expect deep discounts, especially on company brands like Kindle, Blink, and Fire Sticks. Amazon Essentials, another company brand, will see 40% off select winter fashions like sweaters and puffers.

Deals on Halloween costumes and accessories start at $5, and savings on electronics from top brands like Beats, Samsung, and Fujifilm.

Looking for other store deals outside of Amazon, Target Circle Week is October 6-12.

You will find 50% off select kitchen items, like Cuisinart and Instant Pot, 30% off select luggage, 50% off Halloween costumes and candy, and 30% off select toys like Lego sets.

Walmart’s first holiday deals event of the season kicked off online on Oct. 8 with a 12-hour head start for Walmart+ members.

Walmart’s holiday deals will run through October 13, giving consumers time to look for deals on toys and electronics.

Best Buy will also hold a 48-hour flash sale, coinciding with Amazon’s Prime deals on Oct. 8 and 9. The sale features deals on TVs, gaming devices, laptops, and more, with more sale dates coming throughout the month.

Kohl’s “3 days of deals” will run from Oct. 7-9, and consumers should look for daily deals on toys, tech, kitchen appliances, decor, apparel and more.

Some sales are pre-advertised, and others will pop up during the events. Meanwhile, some other sales only last for a few hours, so be ready to jump on them when they drop.

According to Bankrate, half of shoppers said they will start their holiday shopping by Halloween.
