ODOT advises against travel near Diamond, Crater lakes due to severe weather
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. — ODOT crews expect “treacherous conditions” for overnight travel over the High Cascade passes near Diamond Lake and Crater Lake (OR 62 and OR 230 north of Prospect, OR 138E between OR 230 and U.S. 97) and on I-5 near the Siskiyou Summit, the agency said Tuesday afternoon.
“Plan for heavy and drifting snow, high winds and low to zero visibility,” ODOT reports.
If possible, “AVOID TRAVEL IN THIS AREA,” ODOT urges.
Be prepared for the possibility of a full closure of the above highways as conditions worsen.
“Detour onto local roads is not advised,” ODOT says. “They may be impassable and may not be maintained after hours.”
Carry chains and chain up when required.
