Officials: Silvis man charged after trying to rob business, threatening to shoot employee

DAVENPORT, Iowa. (KWQC) – Officials say a Silvis man is charged after trying to rob Brinks in Davenport and threatening to shoot an employee.

22-year-old Cesar Castillo was booked into the Scott County Jail Monday morning on charges of second-degree robbery, a Class C felony; first-degree harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor; public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor; and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor.

Court records show Castillo was also cited for trespassing.

A judge set his bond Monday at $5,000 cash-only. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 14.

According to an arrest affidavit:

At 5:42 a.m. Monday Davenport police responded to a robbery in the 1700 block of West 2nd Street.

Officials said an employee was standing in the back of the business when Castillo approached him and said he knew their was money inside.

Castillo then told the employee to bring a Brinks truck to the back of the business and to open the doors to the business. Officials said Castillo told the employee he would shoot him if he did not give him money.

The employee then tried to walk away from Castillo and told him to leave the property but officials said he refused.

Police said Castillo, who was shirtless, was found on a sidewalk on the east side of the business and was positively identified by the employee.

According to an arrest affidavit surveillance video from the business showed Castillo going into the business and approaching the employee.

Officials said Castillo told police he was intoxicated and refused a preliminary breath test. He also refused to provide his name to officers several times.

Castillo is charged with second-degree robbery, a Class C felony as well as three misdemeanors.(Scott County Jail)
