Ohtani ‘in a great spot,’ set to play in Game 3 (report)

Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani, who sustained a left shoulder subluxation in Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday, is “in a great spot” and will play in Game 3 on Monday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told ESPN on Sunday. The team has made no official announcement.

Ohtani suffered the shoulder subluxation, which is a partial dislocation, when he landed awkwardly on his left arm during a stolen base attempt that ended the seventh inning of the Dodger’s 4-2 win in Game 2. He immediately signaled for a timeout to the second-base umpire and walked off the field with the training staff while holding his left arm gingerly.

Ohtani left the stadium almost immediately after the game and didn’t provide any updates on his injury, but Roberts said Saturday night that the team was encouraged by Ohtani’s strength and range of motion in the clubhouse postgame. Ohtani was scheduled to have an MRI on Sunday before flying out to New York.

Ohtani is just 1-for-8 in the Fall Classic through two games, but he scored the game-tying run in the eighth inning in the Game 1 win. His presence in the lineup is something that can’t be overstated for a Dodgers team looking to take a 3-0 World Series lead on Monday in the Bronx.
