OKEMOS, Mich. (WILX) – Jessica and Travis Rook, owners of Final Approach Detailing, were selected to be a part of the prestigious Air Force One detailing team. The pair have been business owners since 2018, and being selected for this detailing team is a great honor.

During the week-long detailing process, they will be doing things like metal polishing, general cleaning of the aircraft, and adding protection to the plane.

Jessica and Travis were two of 35 people selected for the crew out of a possible 175. Of the 35, Jessica is the only female.

“Its an absolute honor,” she said. “It’s a pretty prestigious accomplishment that we’re able to get out there and help be a part of history.”

The iconic Air Force One has been transporting U.S. presidents across the world since the Roosevelt era.

For the Rooks, the opportunity to work on these planes came from their detailing business, which had some turbulence to its start.

Travis was diagnosed with cancer in 2017.

“Coming out of that, I wasn’t able to go back to a normal working situation,” said Travis.

Travis used to be a pilot in Michigan, but after his diagnosis, he was unable to fly planes anymore.

Because of this, being a part of the Air Force One detailing team means more for Travis than being surrounded with history.

“It’s a really big honor, not just because you are a part of a select few that are doing it, but just my love of aviation.”

That love of aviation gave them the path to the friendly skies and beyond.

The couple named and designed their business logo after planes, so they are a perfect match for this crew.

They will be starting the week-long detail process on July 7 in Seattle.
